Spanish
- a major international language

Spanish is spoken by over 400 million people in Spain, Central and South America (except Brazil), Mexico, parts of the South of the United States, several West Indian countries, the Philippines and the North African coast. The language assumed its modern form in the 16th century. It is a Latin language, and has developed from the Latin spoken Ancient Romans.

Spain
- country of contrasts

In eight hundred kilometres, you can travel from verdant Spain to areas of the country where the sun rules supreme. Stay in the Basque country and enjoy the ancient culture, play pelota, run in front of the bulls in Pamplona and gorge yourself on gourmet meals and excellent Rioja wines. A rocky Atlantic coast guides you to Galicia, "the country of a thousand faces". Ancient Roman roads lead you south, through virgin forests and majestic scenery. Andalusia offers Moorish palaces, fiery flamenco and bull fighting. The province bubbles with life and movement, especially in the cities. Enjoy the happy atmosphere and join in the Spanish people's never-ending stream of festivals. Spain and the Spanish language also open the doors to an even more fascinating world - Latin America.

Alicante

 " The City of Light"
If variety is the spice of life, Alicante takes the cake, however you look at it. This city with a population of over 300,000 combines both classic and modern, it offers business and pleasure, entertainment and educational opportunities, and manages to fit mountains and beaches within its city limits. It even has an island off the coast – the only inhabited island in the Land of Valencia.
The 21st century and the new millennium will usher in a prosperous city in ongoing evolution, with the added dynamics of being one of the offices of the European Union. It will shortly become the site of a unique theme park called “The City of Light”. Apart from this, there is lots of local warmth, with local hospitality and cordiality rating highly, plus a multifaceted entertainment and cultural lineup – described on the pages that follow – that attracts people to this city at any time of the year
